Swedish Jazz soul singer Kissey Asplund took a minute or two to sit and talk to Female Beatmakers about what moves her.
What brought you in into music?
I started to play the piano when I was six, sang in choirs, went to music school, listened to music at home...tee...radio....vinyl’s... :)
What's important the message or the millions?
I think it's the message, but not only the message your music contains but your message by making music. I can feel that some "prank" music is more honest in its approach than a
"political correct" track. Simple rule: Keep it honest no matter what and you can't go wrong and if you by a chance ended up with the millions, good for you. If not - That is totally OK :)
Favourite artist in your I pod at the moment?
Favourite artist is Dorian Concept and Theo Pharish.
Do you know any female producers or beatmakers and who is your favourite?
I must say that Pursuit Grooves got my beatmaker heart very strong. I dig her approach, I dig her skills and I love that she is so 'this is what I do'. AND she's getting around without being someone else.
What was the best advice given to you either in music or in personal life?
1) If you don't focus on what you are doing right now (right now as in this second) you won't change tomorrow or the day after that.
2) To read OSHO's book on Creativity.

What is your motivation?
My motivation is when I gig and me and the crowd are jumping and laughing together. My other motivation is to feel as one with the music and just let it take you places. It's a natural-high that is unfound elsewhere.
If you did not come from earth what planet would you come from and what language would they speak there?
Planet Funkadellicville (Which I do come from) and we would speak a Russian-kind of thing. Very into that language right now :)
If you was a musical super hero what would be your weapon of choice?
My weapon would be my 'twerx'. If you see me live you know what I'm talking about. I twerx a lot when I dance...looks pretty for a tall girl.
Any technical hints or tips you can share?
My biggest tip is:
Listen,Listen,Listen. Try to listen 80 and do 20. Listen to what you have done over and over, in different surroundings, different steps. When u listen you can change, you can think 'this is pretty good but I need to change this'
My next tip would be:
If you are a person that feels as if you are all over the place. LIMIT yourself. I recorded in
Vocals on maximum 6 tracks for 3 years, it teaches you to listen and to take desicions. Take THE DESISCION! The listener can't make that for you and that leads me to the last tip:
Beatmakers! A good beatmaker equals a person that has a good soundscape/sound environment. Listen to it and take the decision if you would like that in your iPod. If no then goodbye to that.

What are your opinions of the music industry today?
I believe it's very interesting for the industry today. E.g. I wouldn't exist without the internet. I think 2009 is going to show more and more where the industry is. Maybe as a “soundtrack", maybe as a lifestyle, someone told me that sales on vinyl’s are going up again, Universal is trying to sell USB. It's going all over the place at the moment.
What are your favourite bits of equipment?
My laptop
Final Thoughts?
Nope...think I kind of rambled them out during the interview :)
