Seattle born singer songwriter Choklate ,has a sweet sound that sticks to you teeth and makes your endorphins peak to an unreachable climax. Unable to compare her sound to anyone else in the market Choklate is soon becoming a household name across the world.

Her self- entitled album hit stores in the summer of 2006 which has lead her to a adventure of gigs across the world. Her recent one being in London, England and Paris.

If Mr Willy Wonka had a candy bar this Choklate delight would be too moreish. The fusion of her voice over amazingly produced music (thanks to Vitamin D, Bean One, Jake One, Kuddie Mak, Jay Townsend and Amos Miller) would keep you pressing replay and soon enough growing an appetite for lyrics bitter and dark or white and sweet.

Not only are her lyrics mature and self-explanatory in her discovery of self and life, they are also very motivating and catchy, and can leave you giggling one minute to becoming introspective the next.

This beautiful spirited lady became the Pied Piper of Hamlin within seconds of getting on stage at her first ever performance in London. Captivating the eyes and ears of those who where willing to be sucked into this magical fountain of Choklate.

Not only is she talented in what she does you also get a sense of emotional intellect when she speaks. Unafraid to tell it how it is and emotionally responsible to say it with conviction.

Beware ladies this music will make you gain weight and cause a breakout. But don’t worry we can all spoil ourselves sometimes.

When did you realise in life that you wanted to be a singer and what inspired you

I think within the last few years it's been hitting me more and more as things progress that I'd like to take things a little more seriously. I really honestly feel like I didn't choose this so much, I feel like the Heavens chose it for me.

What would you consider to be your best track on your recent album and what did it mean to you writing it.

I don't have a favourite. They're all like kids. I feel like people can have favourites but for me they all hold a special piece in my heart and in my memory.

Do you take part in producing any of your stuff

I might suggest a horn or string arrangement or wah wah guitar cause those are my favourite sounds but other than that...I think I just like to allow folks who are producers to do what they do and then I just sing and write which I think I'm more appropriate for.

What do you think of female producers in the music industry

I don't know many. But I feel like everyone has an idea of feeling or is creative in some capacity and if you can make a way in music to utilize your production, man or woman, then that's good but if not it's ok too. If you'd prefer to be just a singer or songwriter etc. I think if you have a talent or gift that you should run toward it but I don't really think so much about men or women specifically. Just talent generally. I think woman or man...if your talented it doesn't much matter what gender you are. I feel that the more we divide ourselves then the more the music will be divided just like anything. So instead of breaking it down into compartments, I'd like to think of it as a collection of creativity. That might be a suckas perspective by someone elses standards but that where I stand on it pretty much at the moment anyway. It could very well change as time progresses.

What advice can you give other singers who are making out in the industry today

Pray.

What would your perfect world be like

Peaceful, happy me, makin music that folks can relate to and that makes the world think or wanna change for the better. Livin comfortably off of my craft and being able to scratch my philanthropist itch.

Who are your all time favourites in music

Sam Cooke, Curtis Mayfield, Marvyn Gaye etc. Folks that evoked so much passion in their music that you could hear it in their tones. Folks that made you respond physically to their songs and the passion in them.

Who would you like to work with

Mos Def, The Roots, Jean Grae, Phonte of Lil Brother, 9th Wonder, Raheem DeVaughn, Van Hunt, Bilal...Chrissette Michelle...Jill Scott...I could name a ton of people who I THINK it may be a joy to work w/...who wouldn't I like to work w/ is a more precise question...I'd love to work w/ Mary J Blige, Alicia Keys and Maroon 5, Yo Yo Ma and shucks...there are a buncha folks I'd love to work w/. Just a bunch of'em.

How did you find your first London Performance

It was a dream. I never thought I'd be there singin my music to folks who knew the words and gave me so much love. I was blown away. Really humbled. Felt like a lil ant on the side of a mountain. I felt really blessed. Just mad grateful.

Final Thoughts

The games not an easy one but I hope that God and music keep me and that you all continue to enjoy the things that you hear. Thanks for givin a darn.

Sy Smith

A magical entityof alluring eccentricity and melodic grooves. Sy Smith is definitely “Your Brain on drugs” But I don’t think Rehab is gonna be the best option for this addiction. Born in New York but raised in Dc, Sy Smith is much more than an artist. She is a singer, songwriter, producer, pianist, and an actress. With an impressive musical history of singing backing vocals with people like The Brand New Heavies, Brandy, Ginuwine and Whitney Houston. It was only time for Miss Smith to take that next step. One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind, her debut album Psykosoul is Neo Soul at its best. Telling the tales of relationships and the roller coaster experiences of life. Sy is definitely a creature of emotion and sensitivity. From Psykosoul came along The SyberSpace Social, an array of psychedelic rhythms that circumnavigates your soul like a miniature solar system.

Female Beatmakers had to take a Space Ship to go and visit Sy and see how she is doing.

How long have you been producing music?.

I’ve been writing music for as long as I read/write. As a pianist, I write at the keyboards, naturally. Producing kind of came naturally since I write at the keyboards... I think the first song I ever “produced” (meaning programmed most of the keyboard parts, bass lines, arranged vocals, etc) was in 1996. So I’ve been at this for more than 10 years now.

Is there anyone on your wish-list that you would like to perform with?.

Prince, Michael Jackson, Sweetback (Sade’s band), Cee-Lo , The Dap-Kings, Red Hot Chili Peppers (not in that order). .

Being a producer did you ever feel in the beginning that people never took you seriously, or did you find they where more willing to give you help? .

That strongly depended on the individual I was working with. Thankfully for me, I usually dealt with very professional musicians/producers who took me seriously from the gate and guided me around “the board” so to speak. Of course, as a female, I’ve had to play the game differently sometimes because guys sometimes think girls are novelties rather than true musicians. But after we get past that mark, it’s smooth sailing. .

If you had a choice what planet would you be from, and what language would they speak there? .

This is probably the most interesting question anyone has ever asked me. If I had a choice, I’d be from a planet in a parallel universe to Earth, maybe Earth’s twin in another dimension. And the language we’d speak would be a seemingly primitive yet very sophisticated system of moans, grunts, other abstract sounds and hand gestures! .

What was the best advice you have received and would like to pass on to other female artist?.

A wise man once told me that in order to gain something you must be willing to sacrifice something of equal or greater value. This is by far one of the most intelligent things anyone has ever said to me! .
